Join Us At The 2012 Pickens County March for Babies

Each year in South Carolina, nearly one in seven babies is born prematurely. So to help raise money to fight premature birth, birth defects, and infant mortality, we are joining with the March of Dimes for the 2012 Pickens County March for Babies.

Come meet us on Saturday, April 28th, at Easley High School Stadium. Registration begins at 8:30am and our awards ceremony will follow at 9:00am. Then, we’ll hit the streets in a group march that will loop through the streets of Easley.

The full walk is six miles, but we’ll also offer a shorter two-mile route. Water stations and restrooms will be available along the route. And after the walk, we’ll have hot dogs and other food, bounce houses for the kids, and lots of other fun activities!

So come help us raise our goal of $125,000 to fight premature births here in Pickens County. In this new video from Baptist Easley Food and Nutrition Services, Matt shows you how to make your very own plate of healthy Eggplant or Chicken Parmesan.

Eggplants are from the night shade or potato family, which includes tomatoes and hot peppers. They can be purple, green, white or striped, pear-shaped or cylindrical, and the size of a golf ball to a football. The most common is purple. It is important to choose one that is heavy for its size with no discoloration or cracks. Eggplants are fat free, cholesterol free, sodium free, low in calories, and a good source of dietary fiber (3 g).

Chicken is considered a lean meat that is more beneficial for heart health. It is low in cholesterol, salt, and saturated fat. One ounce of chicken has 7 grams of protein and 55 kcal. Chicken is also a great source of niacin, a cancer protective B-vitamin, and selenium.
